About

For Jim Krantz, photography has been a way of life. An American photographer who began his career apprenticing under Ansel Adams, Krantz has for the last thirty years created an ongoing body of work that encapsulates the romance and allure between the myth and reality of the American West.  Over his career, Krantz has photographed countless versions of the Marlboro Man, collaborated with lifestyle brand Supreme and seen multiple versions of his work appropriated by Richard Prince. His range and versatility are his forte, working with ease in demanding and ever-changing conditions.

Krantz has been the recipient of The Lucie International Photography Award and has photographed innumerable advertising and editorial projects always pushing the limits of his work. Like the world he photographs, Krantz’s images tell a story full of passion, heroism, and adventure, bringing to life the strength and energy of his subjects.

Jim has embarked on collaborations within the world of design, from furniture, textiles, architectural glass, and fashion. “It lets me step out of seeing things one way. There is the same energy and intent behind what I’m doing, but it doesn’t have to be restricted to one thing.” Jim has begun a new project as the creative director of the new Test Pilot Museum and Learning Center that is being designed by Gensler in Mojave, CA.

Jim Krantz was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and he and his wife Susan, live in Los Angeles.
